Fiddlehead Fern Café is an absolute gem tucked into the Botanical Heights neighborhood. The space is light, bright, and thoughtfully designed—like if your favorite Pinterest board came to life and started serving coffee, cocktails, and seasonal bites. I grabbed a cozy table on the patio (yes, it’s dog-friendly!) and soaked in the sunshine, people-watching, and vibey string lights. Inside has plants and pastries everywhere you turn with a moderate noise level, even when they’re busy. I had the beet tartine topped with egg and fresh greens—equal parts earthy, fresh, and satisfying. And the Cold Brew Martini? Baby, it was smooth, creamy, and served in a vintage glass that made me feel like I should’ve been in a 1940s jazz bar. Perfection. Before I left, I grabbed a Lavender Lime Espresso Tonic to go, and WOW. Floral, citrusy, and just the right amount of bitter—it’s the kind of drink that makes you feel like you have your life together, even if you don’t. Their drink menu is impressively curated so if you love craft coffee or tea lattes and cocktail artistry in equal measure, Fiddlehead Fern Café is a must. I’ll be back—probably with a book, a friend, or both. Great for solo coffee work sessions, catching up with friends, or sipping a little something stronger in the afternoon. Pro tip: Try the Cold Brew Martini. I was so delighted to find this place at the end of my STL work trip, just sad I hadn’t found it sooner! The employee was incredibly helpful answering my many questions. As someone dairy and gluten free with a sensitivity to sugar and seed oils, I had a hard time finding food in STL. Not here. Guys, they MAKE their cashew milk! My dream. I ordered the salad pictured, a matcha (a bit sweet, would ask for half sweet next time), a chocolate chip cookie and was gifted an oat bar. All divine. Will absolutely be back here for every meal on my next work trip. Thank you so much for offering food I can feel well eating.
Everything tasted super fresh from the mint in the mint latte to the fruit and avocado on the toasts. We both loved the espresso tonics and pastries as well. My husband and I were in town for three days and came for breakfast and coffee every day. Even on what felt like a busy weekend the coffee was super quick and the food was faster than expected. Everyone was super sweet and friendly and the space was so nice to hang out in.
Had the most delicious salad ever! It's called the Pompeia. The best part - it was vegan! The bakery items looked amazing, but I'm trying to diet. It was my first visit, but, I'll definitely be back.
After waking up before dawn on my day off I was scrolling Facebook and luxuriating in the knowledge I could snuggle in my blankets a little longer - it’s the WEEKEND! Saw a friend’s post about this cafe and had Pavlov’s dog reaction over their photo. Checked the menu and was reaching out to a friend I knew would also be up to see if they wanted to grab breakfast. The menu offers a wide variety of coffee, latte, non-coffee, juice options. I went with the mint latte. They step fresh ment leaves to make their own syrup to be used. Has the shuttle hint of mint, as the latte is sipped. Not over powering or fake, shuttle like if you were chewing a mint leaf from the garden. My friend opted for the horchata latte, strong cinnamon but smooth. We ended up switching latte’s due to the cinnamon level, it was strong for her to do a full one. I was good with both. We opted for the Peaches and Ricotta toast. It was covered in fresh peaches, whipped ricotta, housemade jam, candied pecans, local raw honey, lemon zest, and fresh thyme served on Union Loafers rustic sourdough. Second choice was the cashew butter and jam toast. It was built with housemade cashew butter, seasonal jam, pumpkin seeds, thinly sliced almonds, local raw honey, bee pollen served on Union Loafers rustic sourdough. Very fresh, refreshing, and flavorful ingredients. Farm to table with ingredients from local farms around our area. When the crowd picked up and the sun was causing the temp to raise, they opened a window making the vibe for open air cafe. They sit on the corner, so there was a cross breeze that was nice. Great friendly staff. Great food. They open at 7:00 and have ample table space to place books out for study time - which I saw a couple of individuals doing and was glad I was able to just enjoy the space without studying. Check them out!
The place seemed nice. I was staying nearby and wanted cold brew coffee, but they only had nitro brew, which I don’t really enjoy. I didn’t have strong feelings about it—neither loved nor hated it. They had oat bars with berries that looked tasty, and some handmade pastries that also looked good. They didn’t offer any hot food or made-to-order items, just coffee drinks. The patio outside had a comfortable space.
One of my favorite study and/or brunch places in STL. Inside there's calm music, beautiful natural light, and the service is top notch. They also have an outdoor seating area (about half in the shade) that is lovely and also includes table service. The avocado toast and pompeia salad are incredible and the tea options are too. Very few outlets, so bring your computer charged if you're studying. Lots of gluten free and dairy free options!
